In 1978 Casio released the F-100, their first resin-cased watch. A small-scale digital watch, it featured an off-center display and top-mounted buttons, giving it a distinctive look. While seemingly ordinary and retro by today’s standards, at the time, this was a truly cutting-edge piece of technology. A fact that is proven by its use (in a modified form) in the 1979 survival horror epic Alien, worn by none other than the protagonist, Ellen Ripley. In 2021, Casio brought it back as the A100, reviving the icon.

Measuring 32.7mm x 40.7mm and 9.2mm thick, the A100 is fairly small in stature, yet its sharp lines and faceted shape give it a strong presence on the wrist and distinctive style. The face is split into an upper half with a thin window showing the LCD display, and a lower half with four buttons, separated by a thin strip of case material. Beside each button is a color, tying into the function guide printed above the screen. It’s sci-fi chic in the best way possible.

Keeping the A100 mounted to your wrist is a brushed metal bracelet with a severe taper and single-piece links. A perfect match for the sharp angles of the case, it completes the picture with a late 70’s flair.
