The case of the GA2000 employs a newer G-SHOCK technology — the Carbon Core Guard. This new construction method takes advantage of the inherent properties of carbon fiber, most notably the shock dissipation, rigidity, and high resistance to degradation over time. The result is a watch that’s as shock-proof as ever but in a slimmer package. The display functions on the dial are still digital at their core but feature a very analog viewing experience.

Measuring in at 48.7mm wide x 51.2mm lug-to-lug x 14.1mm thick, the GA2000 still has serious wrist presence but stays well within the “comfortable to wear” territory. Large textured buttons make the watch’s digital features especially easy to use. The watch is also water-resistant to 200m, making it ideal for a wide range of water-related activities. Most G-SHOCKs come with an integrated rubber strap, but that’s not the case with the GA2000 series. You can personalize these models to your liking thanks to the interchangeable straps with quick-release spring bars.

One of the coolest things about the GA2000 is the hybrid analog/digital experience when using the watch. The primary time display is analog, with a traditional handset. At 3, a small digital screen displays the day of the week. Moving around to 6, there’s a ticking seconds screen, and at 9 you’ll find a unique rotating analog mode display. The digital features include a world time display, stopwatch, alarm, and countdown timer. The GA2000 represents one of the more analog G-SHOCKs in their lineup, and the features are blended together quite well.

About G-Shock

G-SHOCK was born from a simple idea — a watch should not break when dropped. Back in 1983, the original square-shaped DW-5000C was created after Kikuo Ibe witnessed a child bouncing a rubber ball. It struck him that a watch floating within a rubber case would be impervious to shocks. After a bunch of testing and design with toughness in mind, the brand was born. Nearly 35 years and hundreds of models later, G-SHOCK is still best known for being some of the toughest, hard-wearing watches that money can buy.
