G-SHOCK’s new limited edition GMW-B5000TVA is inspired by the world of science fiction and video games. It’s not likely that you’re going to throw on a mech suit before you head out the door for some coffee, but this new G-SHOCK definitely gets you a step closer. Crafted from lightweight titanium that’s treated with a durable DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating the watch is then laser engraved with every spec imaginable, giving it a unique look. From the visible red shock resin shock protecting components to the alternating matte and polished finishes, this all-metal G makes quite the impression.

Taking design cues from the classic square G-SHOCK, the GMW-B5000TVA is a familiar shape and size. At 43.2mm wide, 49.3mm wide, and 13mm thick, the watch wears remarkably well on the wrist thanks to the square shape. The entire case and bracelet are crafted from titanium, with the entire watch weighing in at just 104 grams. Up top, a sapphire crystal protects the LCD screen underneath and features a glare-resistant coating for increased legibility. Just one look at the watch, and you’ll see the design inspirations borrowed from the world of science fiction. There are engravings all over the watch, just like you’d find on a futuristic flight suit. On the clasp, there’s another list of specs, while each link on the bracelet lets you know exactly which way to remove the links. There’s a lot going on, but in the best way possible.

Inside the titanium case, there’s a solar-powered, Bluetooth-enabled module keeping time. The 3459 module is also capable of syncing time over radio waves to the atomic clock. By default, the display shows the time, day and date. With a press of the mode button, you can access world time mode, an alarm, stopwatch, and countdown timer — all very useful in day to day applications. With a little help from the G-SHOCK app on your phone, the watch can automatically adjust itself so the timing is always spot-on accurate.
