The late '60s saw the pinnacle of the racing chronograph. An essential accessory for anyone with a penchant for speed, the chronograph squeezed the style and attitude of the track and the machines that burned rubber upon them into a form that fits on the wrist. Perfecting the “panda” dial layout with their bold, two register dials, Hamilton made many now iconic chronographs in this era.

The Intra-matic Chrono H is the closest Hamilton has come to recreating their rare and beloved ‘60s chronographs in modern-day. The big difference is the movement, which has been converted to be manually wound and date-free. Any watch enthusiast will tell you, there’s something about winding your watch in the morning that’s just special, so we’re glad to see Hamilton bring that back. On top of that, they’ve refined the dial to be truer to their historical references, and slimmed down the 40mm case slightly, making it easier to wear.

Inside of the Intra-matic Chrono H is the H-51 Swiss-made caliber. This hand-wound chronograph is based on the venerable ETA/Valjoux 7753, the H-51 features 27-jewels, hacking, a frequency of 28,800 bph, and a power reserve of 60-hours. Most mechanical chronographs top out at around 40 hours, making the H-51 stand out.
