In the 1970s Hamilton received a contract to produce watches for the British Royal Air Force. Now iconic watches, the W10s were defined by their small, rugged barrel-shaped cases and clean pilot dials. For 2019, Hamilton has brought back this design in an incredibly faithful reissue, combining all of the charm of the originals with modern components and mechanics.
The Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical measures a remarkably nimble 36 x 42mm, making it nearly identical to its '70s forefather. The case is fully brushed with a great attention to detail and is topped off by a tall, box mineral crystal with double AR, providing the look of acrylic but greater scratch resistance. The dial then exudes vintage style with a rough, matte surface and parchment-colored lume that has been outlined to appear like an over print. This is a must have for military fans.
Powering the Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical is the H-50 Swiss-made caliber. This handwound movement features 17 jewels, hacking seconds, a frequency of 21,600 bph, and most notably, a power reserve of 80 hrs. The ideal movement for this watch, it combines the nostalgia of a hand-wound movement with an extended power reserve for modern convenience.
