Norqain is a new brand with only a few years of existence under their belt, but in that short period of time, they’ve managed to make quite the impression on the watch world with their excellent design and precise Swiss construction. Taking a turn from their catalog on modern sports watches is their Freedom 60. It’s a 39mm vintage-inspired watch with a chronometer-certified movement inside. While the watch still bears some of Norqain’s signature design cues, it’s a welcomed departure from the rest of their lineup. 

The Freedom 60 is housed inside a 39mm polished 316L stainless steel case featuring Norqain’s signature plate on the side. Measuring in at 11.4mm thick, the sub-40mm case is sure to feel great on any size wrist, hitting the generally accepted sweet spot. The star of the show is the domed anthracite gray dial. It features a radial brushed pattern that plays with the light as you rotate the watch. Hand-applied polished indices and faceted hands are both treated with “Old Radium'' SuperLuminova that look like creamy faded lume, but still glow as bright as when new. Above the dial is a retro box sapphire that’s treated with a double AR coating for optimal legibility. Around the outside of the crystal, you’ll find a highly polished smooth bezel that transitions into the case. A screw-down crown with an engraved logo helps the case achieve its 100m water resistance rating. 

Inside the Freedom 60 is chronometer-certified Norqain NN20/1 — a joint partnership with movement manufacturer, Kenissi. The caliber beats at a smooth 28,800 beats per hour and features an impressive power reserve of 70 hours. Inside, 28 jewels keep the movement running smoothly. Hacking seconds and the ability to hand-wind make time setting a breeze.  It’s accurate to -4/+6 seconds per day, as required by a chronometer certification. There are customized touches throughout, like an engraved rotor and Norqain’s “Adventure-Freedom-Independence” mantra on the inside. 

To add a personal touch to the watch, you can engrave the Norqain plate on the side of the case with a special date or phrase. While getting something engraved on the case back is a nice sentiment, it spends most of its time completely out of view. By having that special date, name, phrase, or location right on the side of the watch, you can see it while you’re wearing it, but it’s not on full display for everyone to see.
