Norqain is a new brand with only a few years of existence under their belt, but in that short period of time, they’ve managed to make quite the impression on the watch world with their excellent design and precise Swiss construction. Taking a turn from their catalog on modern sports watches is their Freedom 60. It’s a 42mm vintage-inspired watch with an automatic mechanical movement inside. If you like the design of the Freedom 60 39mm, but want something with a bit more presence on the wrist, this stunning blue-dialed 42mm watch is sure to scratch that itch. 

Measuring in at 42mm, the Freedom 60 42mm features a classic case design with a few of Norqain’s signature touches throughout. A mix of polished and brushed surfaces play with the light, especially the polished chamfer separating the mid case from the top surface of the case. A smooth bezel surrounds the stunning blue dial. The dial itself is slightly domed with a radial brushed finish, allowing the base blue to change shades depending on the light. Denoting the hours are 12 hand-polished, applied indices that are treated with Old Radium SuperLuminova for a vintage look. The watch is rated for 100m of water resistance and features a signed screw-down crown at 3 o’clock. Up top, a double-domed sapphire crystal protects the dial below. It’s been treated with a dual anti-reflective coating for optimal visibility from any angle. Syringe-shaped hands are polished to a high shine and feature lumed center sections for visibility in the dark. The Freedom 60 42mm also features a date display feature at 3 o’clock that’s rendered in white text on a blue date wheel to match the dial. 

Inside the watch is Norqain’s NN09, which is based on ETA’s reliable workhorse, the 2824. This mechanical automatic movement beats at 28,800 beats per hour and has 25-jewels throughout the movement keeping things running smoothly. When fully wound, it’ll tick for just under 40 hours between windings. You can see the custom rotor that winds the movement through the sapphire case back. 

To add a personal touch to the watch, you can engrave the Norqain plate on the side of the case with a special date or phrase. While getting something engraved on the case back is a nice sentiment, it spends most of its time completely out of view. By having that special date, name, phrase, or location right on the side of the watch, you can see it while you’re wearing it, but it’s not on full display for everyone to see.
