Oris is no stranger to a limited edition -- they’ve produced many stunning watches that do an excellent job at honoring the focus of the edition. From dive watches with ties to underwater conservation efforts to pilot watches inspired by flight suits, each watch tells a story. The new Pro Pilot Rega Fleet watches are built to the specifications of the Swiss air rescue team. Rega is a privately funded elite rescue team supported by over 3.5 million patrons that can report for duty within 15 minutes to anywhere in Switzerland. A rescue team that’s operating at high altitudes in the mountains needs a watch that can keep up with the rest of their gear, and Oris’s Pro Pilot GMT makes an excellent starting point.

Measuring in at 41mm wide, the stainless steel case features a fixed textured bezel with a pulsations scale that can calculate heart rate. Red accents adorn the face of the watch, seen on the tip of the GMT hand, the 12 o’clock pip on the bezel, and in the Rega fleet logo just above the 6 o’clock marker on the dial. White numerals really pop out from the matte black dial, as do the white lume-filled hands making for a highly legible watch. A thin black seconds hand sports a white tip which you can use in conjunction with the pulsations bezel.

The Pro Pilot has 20mm lugs, shipping on a black leather strap with a grey PVD coated clasp, and includes an additional red rubber strap. Flip the watch over and you’ll see the special design on the case back depicting one of the Airbus helicopters used by the team in rescue missions. There are 21 different case backs spanning three different helicopter models, and several different registration numbers. These case backs are random, so refer to the photos below to see what is in stock.

Time is kept courtesy of the Oris 798 movement. It’s based on the automatic Sellita SW 330-1 with some neat customizations like a red signed rotor. The movement drives four hands - hours, minutes, seconds, and a 24-hour GMT hand to track a separate time zone. Beating away at 28,800bph, the movement drives the seconds hand around the dial with a clean sweep. There are 25 jewels in the movement keeping everything running smooth. When fully wound, the watch will run for 42 hours between wearings.

About Oris

The rich history of Oris dates back to 1904, when Paul Cattin and Georges Christian founded the brand in Hölstein, Switzerland, where it is still based. Over the past century, Oris has reached many great achievements, including being one of the 10 largest watch brands in the world in the 1960’s. Since the 1980’s, Oris has pursued a catalog of unique mechanical watches that has channeled their independent spirit. From their patented Worldtimer to their depth gauge diver to their mechanical altimeter pilot’s watch, Oris has continued to innovate in a way few other brands can match. An achievement that is highlighted by the brand’s commitment to fare, and accessible prices.
